Steven Gillespie is being troubled by a groin injury, and is doubtful for Colchester’s opener against Preston at the weekend.

John Ward, as he told The Gazette, does not think its too serious and is hoping to nurse him back to fitness.

As the week goes on it will become clearer if Gillespie can feature: ‘we had a chat with the doctor and we don’t think it’s as serious as it could have been.

‘Steven’s OK – we’ll now build him back up and if it’s too much, we’ll find out.’
