You think striker Steven Gillespie will become a solid first-teamer next season as he hopes to prove his worth for Colchester.

The forward, who scored once in his side`s narrow 3-2 win over non-league Tiptree on Saturday, is tipped to impress by 51 percent of Vital Colchester users, who think he`ll manage to play between 25 and 40 plus matches for the U`s in 2008/9.

With the new season only five weeks away, Gillespie, 25, talked about what went wrong last time, in the EADT: “It didn’t work out for me. I struggled with injuries.

‘Hopefully, that’s all behind me now. I’ve been training with the lads for the last couple of weeks, and we’ve put in some hard work.”

The club record signing scored five goals in nine starts following his £400,000 move. It proved a miserable debut season Gilly in U’s colours.

The poll results, however, reflect a hope that Gillespie will improve all-round for the upcoming campaign.

Prompted a suggestion from member, Up_the_u’s_aaron, we asked you how many games you thought the forward would be likely to get as manager Paul Lambert looks to take them out of the Championship.

Eighteen percent of the vote went on the idea that Gillespie will play a maximum of 25 games, while eleven percent said his injury and suspension problems would continue. Just five percent believe Gillespie will prove indispensable and a further fourteen percent are willing to chance that he plays less than ten matches.

I think a lot of it is hoping that he will play that many games. Up the U’s!
