Ahead of the Colchester FA Cup tie with Peterborough United this afternoon we announced the signing of experienced defender Kaspars Gorkss.

The Latvian defender, well known in the English game after spells with Queen Park Rangers and Reading, as well as a loan spell with Wolverhampton Wanderers, has been a free agent since leaving Reading in the summer.

Gorkss has remained active though as he’s continued to add to his international caps with the Latvian nation side but he’ll now be spending time at the Weston Homes Community Stadium after signing a deal through until January, initially.

The 33-year-old made his U’s debut in our one-nil win over league 1 rivals Peterborough United, with Moncur’s injury-time goal securing our place in the third round.
