JAMIE GUY says he could have won a priceless point for Colchester on Tuesday against Tranmere Rovers, but scuppered a late chance.

The 21-year-old came off the bench to inject more threatening pace into a game which had looked beyond Colchester`s reach.

When Guy came on for Clive Platt with twenty-five minutes remaining, the U`s youth-team graduate added an extra pace and urgency up front.

But he also admitted that what turned out to be a loss for Paul Lambert`s side might have turned out very differently. Colchester lost thier first game of the year to a side very close to them in League One.

Guy, on his extra time chance, told BBC Essex: “The defender just played the back-pass short; he gambled, a luckily for me the ball just seemed to spin and when it bounced, it sort of span behind me instead of dropping nicely for me.

“That`s football – anything can happen. It that`s gone in, it`s a point for us, but I suppose it was our luck that that`s how the ball bounced and it`s gone away from me, instead of for me.”

The striker, staking a first-team claim after his loan spell at Oxford United and in the absence of other key players, added: “I`m really delighted to be back at this level; I`ve just got to keep doing the right things on the pitch.”
