Guy Wants Fresh Start

Colchester United’s troubled striker Jamie Guy wants to quit the U’s.

Guy, 20, was banned from driving for 12 months and fined £400 and £75 costs following charges of drink-driving and driving without insurance or a licence. The ex-Cambridge loanee was also fined £350 with £75 costs after admitting threatening behaviour, relating to a play-fight’ in a Colchester car park.

I’m upset about what’s happened, and it won’t be happening again,’ he said, outside Colchester Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The front-man also revealed his plans to make a fresh start elsewhere: ‘I haven’t really spoken to the club about it. I do not see myself at the club after this and I am looking to get away for a fresh start.’

U’s boss Geraint Williams, who recently stated his desire to keep Guy, said: ‘The club do not condone Jamie’s behaviour but has been sympathetic to his position and we will speak to him with a view to the best outcome for both Jamie and for the club.’

The Barking-born forward failed to start a U’s game last season, only making a dozen appearances from the bench. Guy, who stands at 6ft 1 in, rejected a loan move to Crewe Alexandra in the second-half of last season.

Guy’s willingness to leave North Essex could well prompt interest from Crewe, while Leyton Oreint could also pounce.
