Hearts After Colchester Frontman?

Reports in the Scottish media suggest that Hearts could be set to swoop for Colchester striker Chris Iwelumo.

Iwelumo who is out of contract in the summer has netted 17 goals this season in the Coca-Cola Championship.

The U’s were only promoted from League one last season, but have made light work of challenging for a play-off berth this term.

Hearts had scouted the 6ft 4in Scotsman at the recent clash against Leeds on Easter Monday, a match in which the U’s grabbed a 2-1 victory with top scorer Iwelumo netting the equaliser.

Hearts interim Head Coach Anatoly Korobochka said

‘We saw one match which was particularly good in the second half, one team had greater quality but the other won because it had greater desire’.

The thought of European football with Hearts is thought to appeal to the prolific frontman, however much may depend on whether Colchester’s promotion push is successful, as if the U’s were able to offer Scottish-born Iwelumo the chance to play in the Premiership, it would surely be too good to turn down.

I’ve never seen the boy play myself. If he’s your top scorer, then its a given he’d be a loss for you, but would he cut it at Hearts do you think?

  • Matt_Us says:

Well, I hope he stays. I think every player has a desire to play at the highest level, and i’m sure he’d adapt, he’s played in Scotland before. He’s not our top scorer, but your only as good as your team-mates.

What with a possible call up to Scotland, we need to get Chris signed back on.

  • Matt_Us says:

Agreed. He is under-rated outside Essex!
