Colchester’s opening pre-season friendly saw us secure an emphatic eight-nil win at Heybridge Swifts on Saturday.

It was a tale of a game of two halves as Tony Humes named a different XI for each half at Scraley Road but you couldn’t separate either as we scored four in the first half and four in the second half!

Porter grabbed himself two, which is something we’ll be hoping the former Sheffield United man can do regularly for us this season, Lee and Moncur the other in the first half to send us in four-up at the break.

Despite an entirely different XI in the second half another brace, this time from Wright, Bonne and Szmodics goals saw us through to this eight-nil win against our Ryman Division One North opponents.

I don’t mean to sound disrespectful to our hosts but as much as this thrashing is a morale boost for us I don’t think too many will be getting too carried away by this win and rushing out putting massive amounts of money on us to run away with the League 1 title will they….we’ll certainly take this win though!

First Half – Lewington, Brindley, Eastman, James, Olufemi, Lapslie, Moncur, Lee, Sembie-Ferris, Holman, Porter.

Second Half – Parrish, Vincent-Young, Wynter, Kent, Briggs, Edwards, Gilbey, Szmodics, Massey, Wright, Bonne.
