I Can`t See Myself In Another Shirt – Tierney

Potentially great news for all Colchester United optimists today as Marc Tierney rubbishes recent speculation linking him with a move away from the club.

The full-back`s name was subject the attention of a Sky Sports article last week saying off the field putting unidentified Championship sides on alert over his future availability.

But Tierney has refuted the talk publically, also dining any possibility of a rift but saying he has “no idea” where the rumours began.

This website mooted two sides often mentioned earlier in the season as possible destinations – League One`s Southampton and Norwich City – and Sky`s update on the situation now still insists the player`s progress is being watched by Championship-level teams.

Tierney was unofficially linked with both the Saints and the Canaries shortly after unfounded worries amongst many nervous supporters that Dean Hammond`s exit in August would trigger a playing-staff firesale.

He subsequently opened negotiation with Aidy Boothroyd this spring to extend his current contract, however, which still has around a year to run.

I have literally not spoken to anyone about my contract for the last couple of months,” the 24-year-old told the East Anglain Daily Times. “The wheels were in motion but unfortunately we couldn`t agree anything and, in the end, we decided to leave it for the time being because I didn`t want it to get in the way of the rest of the season.

It wasn`t a case of falling out or anything like that. I gave my feedback and it wasn`t a problem.”

The former Shrewsbury and Oldham man, who is a candidate for Player of the Season this term, added: “To get Young Player of the Year in my first season was amazing and the fans have really taken to me. I can`t see myself in another shirt to be honest.”

good news – best outfield player this season by a long way (still a little way behind Williams though)

  • Matt_Us says:

Seems dubious – if he’s happy he sould just sign! But anyway, good news indeed!

  • StevieG Col U says:

Yep, indeed not quite the POTY due to Williams but has been fantastic. We need to make sure he’s here next season if we want promotion…!

  • Tubbsy says:

I should imagine he’s holding out for more money/better terms/longer deal whatever his agent tells him he should be getting/could get elsewhere. Bet this one runs & runs. Do I sound cynical? That’s what this run has done to all of us!

  • Matt_Us says:

Possibly the run is to blame, Tubsy! I agree because I’ve seen Jamie Cureton, just one name from a list of probably many, say the same things in previous seasons and still leave.
