Phil Ifil is happy to be back in Colchester United’s first-team picture.

The young full-back was frozen out under former boss Paul Lambert but is now fighting his way into Aidy Boothroyd’s U’s revolution.

‘It`s good to be part of things again,’ Ifil enthused to The Daily Gazette.

Ifil, who signed in January 2008, for a fee of around £250,000, made his second appearance of the season, as a late sub against Charlton Athletic on Tuesday night.

And the 22-year-old spoke about how Boothroyd has given him a chance to kick-start his U’s career.

He added: ‘The manager has said everyone is on a level playing field and he told me to get my head down and I`d get my chance.’

Lamberts’ man management skills seem to have been non existent. Pleased to see that Boothroyd has an open minded approach and is prepared to give every player a chance.
