Initial Holt Bid Rejected, But U’s Still Keen

Colchester United are still confident they can agree a deal to bring powerful front-man Grant Holt to the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

The Shrewsbury Town player was the subject of a £250,000 bid towards the end of last week, which we have since learned was rejected.

However, U’s chief executive Steve Bradshaw revealed to The Daily Gazette that negotiations remain ongoing in the hope a deal can be concluded. It is thought a fee of around £300,000+ will be enough to secure Holt’s services.

Bradshaw confirmed: ‘We have made a bid and the bid was rejected by Shrewsbury.

‘We are still speaking to Shrewsbury at the moment.’

Holt netted 27-goals in total during his first season at The Prostar Stadium, following a record transfer from Nottingham Forest. And with The Shrews narrowly missing out on promotion from League Two, they face a tough fight to hold on to the 27-year-old.

So do you think a deal will be agreed?
