Ipswich boss Jim Magilton had his preparations for tonight`s A12 Derby game against Colchester United disrupted, with a link to former England captain David Beckham inviting a media-circus.

As Colchester looked to end the stat which shows Ipswich as undefeated at home so far this season, the media were busy testing the validity of an association with East Anglia and the world`s most recognisable player.

Beckham, 32, was linked with the Suffolk outfit because he is said to be looking for a base in England where he can train in the weeks between the end of the MLS season and the commencement of the summer`s European Championships in Austria & Switzerland.

This, of course, waould only be a possability if England managed to qualify, but sources at Ipswich denied the story, despite Jim Magilton`s words in the Daily Telegraph today. He said: “I would love to have David Beckham training with us.

“If it helps him out then he would be very welcome here indeed.

“It would give our players a huge boost to be training with someone of his calibre and give the whole place a huge lift; ideally I would also love to have him play a couple of games but I doubt that would be possible.”
