Jackson: Point A Forward Step

Johnnie Jackson, Colchester United`s goalscorer in yesterday`s draw against Leicester, has called the result of the game “a step forward” after recent defeats.

After the result, which sees the U`s remain in 16th place in the Championship, Jackson told BBC Essex that his side were “not too disappointment” to have come away with a point. It was the first time Colchester have taken anything from a game for two games, having lost away to both Ipswich and Coventry.

“It`s a point on the board,” Jackson said at full time. “I thought we had the better of the game, so maybe we should have got all three. A win would have been nice.”

The midfielder, who was pushed out wide to accommodate Kevin Watson in central midfield, continued: “We`re playing pretty well at home, but we`ve got to address problems.

If you go behind, it makes the task of winning difficult and it`s happened a few times.”

Of his goal, the player said: “It was about my third touch.” Jackson, whose goal came right before the break with his head. “It was a lovely ball from Yeates.”

The 24-year-old added: “I was finding it difficult to create and fine space – I`m not a winger, but different games require different things. You switch off to the presence of the cameras but it was nice to score tonight.”
