Colchester United youth team boss Joe Dunne says he is ready to step up to the plate in the club’s hour of need. Again.

The 34-year-old yesterday told the town’s Evening Gazette that he would be willing to reassume the vacant assistant manager’s role once more, just as he did at this time last season following the departure of Phil Parkinson to Hull City.

“If the club haven’t got anybody in place by the time the pre-season programme starts I will be more than willing to step up and help out the manager again,” said Dunne, who was eventually relinquished in the role by Mick Harford.
