Seeing Pat Baldwin in pain after turning his ankle, plus possibly straining a coruscate ligament, on Saturday against Southampton had both the player and fans alike fearing long-term injury.

But this story has a happy ending. Baldwin told today`s EADT he is score, but not overly hurt, following scans on both his ankle and keen yesterday.

It’s basically good news. I just have a slight strain of the muscle in my knee. I landed awkwardly on my ankle when I came down, and their defender then landed on my leg. It pulled my knee out a bit, so both the ankle and knee were sore.”

Sightings of the player, initially afforded a standing ovation from the Colchester support at the time, walking to the team coach unaided come full-time had all-but allayed any needless panic.

When I did it, I thought that I had broken my leg! But it began to settle down almost immediately, after I got stretchered back to the dressing room.”

The current stand-in skipper added in the Daily Gazette that he felt fellow defender Matt Heath did very well in deputising for him as a substitute.
