This time last week, Kevin Lisbie was proverbial no-man`s land after Ipswich declared he could stay on laon with Colchester too late to face Preston North End.
Since, he has officially returned until the end of the season – but with conditions and on permanent call-back, sound Town exercise their right to sell the player during January`s transfer window.
Unconfirmed interest from Championship Crystal Palace, then later Queen`s Park Rangers, fizzled out, although it had looked an impossibility anyway given their well-documented financial problems.
“I was delighted to get the call from Ipswich to say that Kevin could continue with us,” said boss Aidy Boothroyd earlier this week in the EADT. He previously insisted the U`s would priced out of offering the player a permanent move to Essex.
Roy Keane yesterday admitted the mix-up which meant Lisbie was not in last weekend`s squad was because he had reassessed his options.
He told the Suffolk club`s official site: “I know I said a few weeks back that Kevin would be coming back but I am entitled to change my mind and he will be staying with Colchester for now. He is playing games there and we have a lot of options here but the situation can change if we get an offer for him.”
Should Lisbie continue to impress for the U`s, they may be tempted to tender a bid at the end of the season. His Ipswich contract runs until 2011.
