Colchester had veteran Goalkeeper Aidan Davison to thank for their latest point away at Luton Town, with the hatters hitting the woodwork 3 times and missing a penalty, combined with Davison`s all action goal keeping display in what was an exciting second half.

There was a goal for each side in the first half with Jamie Cureton drilling a shot low into the corner of Beresford’s goal, equalising Sam Parkin’s headed opener, in what was a pretty even first half.

Colchester started brightly with a run by Richard Garcia who played a great ball through to Jamie Cureton. Cureton`s shot not only beat the keeper but the goal aswell.

Luton came more into the game as the half wore on with Carlos Edwards and Rowan Vine causing the Colchester defence a world of problems, Luton took the lead on 31 minutes with Edwards whipping in a lovely cross into the U’s area. Sam Parkin watched his header go in off the far post for his first goal for Luton since his move from Ipswich Town.

The U`s were not to be out done, attacking from the resulting restart and pressurising the home side, a cross from U`s skipper Duguid was asking to stroked home however there was not a red shirt close enough. Wayne Brown put a free kick over the bar after Jamie Cureton was fouled on the edge of the area.

Kevin Watson collected the ball inside the centre circle and played an intelligent ball into the feet of Chris Iwelumo. The big striker showed great awareness of what was around him as his one touch lay off was perfect for his fellow striker to hit a shot from twenty yards out. Without having to check his run at all, Cureton drove the ball firmly past Marlon Beresford’s right hand and into the corner of the net.

The half finished all square and on the balance of play, it was fair that both teams went into the interval all square. However Luton came out in the second half determined to win the game and started attacking from the start. Izzet was adjudged to have fouled Langley in the U`s box and the referee gave what seemed a harsh penalty.

Langley stepped up to take the spot kick himself beating Davison but watching his kick rebound off of the U`s Crossbar. Vine had the ball in the back of the net, however the referees assistant had flagged for him being offside some 5 seconds earlier.

With the home side piling on the pressure, up stepped Veteran Goalkeeper Aidan Davison, who first tipped a shot from Parkin onto the bar before saving from Vine and palming away a shot from Foley which should have been nestling in the corner of the net, he then tipping another shot from Carlos Edwards onto the Bar.

The U`s Goal was living a charmed life and it seemed that Luton could create chances at will.

With ten minutes to go, Jamie Guy replaced Chris Iwelumo however the home team continued to pile forward looking for that winning goal only to be stopped by Davison who made two more saves in the next two minutes, from Vine and Foley. It became shooting practice but Davison was up to the task, making yet another great save from Edwards drive.

What did I tell you? Davison is always brilliant or rubbish against us (though usually brilliant) and he was again tonight. If it was boxing the ref would have stopped it in the second half, but fair play to Colchester on taking a point. If the ‘u’s had’ve scored a second during their period of pressure just after Luton scored, it would have been a different game, and they would probably have thrashed us. Good luck for the rest of the season.
