Paul Lambert began life in the Championship with a loss but there was better news for others with ex-U`s connections.

The one-time Colchester boss saw his Norwich charges succumb to defeat against Watford, beginning the 2010-11 season in stark contrast to this time last year, which of course saw Colchester batter the Canaries 7-1.

Coventry City, now managed by Lambert`s successor at United, Aidy Boothroyd, meanwhile recorded a win against newly-relegated Portsmouth as former Southend striker Freddy Eastwood grabbed both goals in a two-zero win.

Clive Platt, who recently left the U`s to link up with Boothroyd at City, also made his debut for the Sky Blues, without scoring as a second-half substitute.

Chris Iwelumo, whom Platt was originally bought from MK Dons to replace, however made a scoring debut for Burnley, scoring a trademark header to give his new side all three points in their opener against Nottingham Forest.
