Kem: Defence Not Good Enough!

Colchester United’s Kem Izzet has admitted that the U’s have not been good enough defensively this season.

The U’s conceded a disappointing 86 league goals in 46 games, but it was a different story going forward where they scored a creditable 62 goals. A collection of individual errors and a lack of communication at the back have been the reason for the U’s relegation.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Izzet said: ‘We scored 62 goals and if you look at anyone else’s record then I don’t think many have gone down scoring that many.

‘It goes to show we’re dangerous going forward but defensively not good enough.

‘We need to work on communicating better not just at the back but as a unit and that probably rectifies the mistakes we’ve been making.’

With the U’s having one of the stronger squads in League One they are likely to be backed to make an instant return to the second tier of English football.

‘First and foremost we need to be organised – we know that,’ the out-of-favour midfielder continued.

‘It’s a difficult league to get out of and we know that we’re not just going to turn up and think we’ll be promoted.

‘It’s going to take a lot of hard work, a lot of organisation and goals and we’re all looking forward to the challenge next season.’
