Kem: We’ll halt promotion party

Colchester’s midfielder Kem ‘Hatchet Man’ Izzet has been quoted in the media as saying that the club will halt Sunderland’s potential promotion party when Roy Keane’s side visit Layer Road this weekend.

Currently top, the Wearside outfit could be guaranteed Premiership football just a year after being relegated on the lowest points total ever, if results conspire in their favour. They need a win against the U’s if they are to achieve the feat, and with games to spare.

Colchester, however, have only lost three times at home since winning promotion last season, and have ambitions to creep into the top-six between now and May. The Essex side have set a target of three victories from their last three games, and Izzet said: “To be playing against the top teams at this point in the season is what we all want to do and we’ll be right up for it.”

Despite the fact that Keane’s side are now unbeaten in sixteen matches, Izzet and his team-mates, after going on a similar run themselves earlier in the season, are confident they can achieve victory: “We’ll work hard in training, knuckle down and come Saturday we’ll be going all out to get the three points.”
