Former Colchester player and assistant Mark Kinsella has returned to coaching in his homeland of Ireland.

Kinsella worked as the assistant boss to former U’s boss Joe Dunne but when Dunne was sacked earlier in the season Kinsella also parted company with the club and left the Weston Homes Community Stadium, perhaps leaving the club for the last time?

When the 42-year-old left us he said that he has decided to return to Ireland and having done this he’s taken the assistant’s job with League of Ireland outfit Drogheda United.

His is a move that he insists that he knows what he’s ‘getting into’ and also insists that he’s made this move and not just as a short-term stop gap before returning to England.

Kinsella was quoted in the Gazette as saying: ‘I’m not just here for a short spell, as a stepping stone to get back to England.

‘I’m an Irishman and I’m happy to be back home.

‘I know all about the League of Ireland and want to do well with Drogheda.’
