Lambert Meddling Gives U`s Psychological Boost?

Paul Lambert`s highly-publisised input into pushing for a fixture postponement for Norwich against Walsall this week could benefit the U`s. Here`s hoping, eh?

The former Colchester manager, who quit less than a year into his reign, advised the referee against allowing play after the pitch inspection initially passed all-clear. United, who are one place below City, meanwhile played their game. Hosting Southampton in adverse conditions, they still managed to seal victory.

The 2-1 positive allowed the Essex side to close a one-win gap, which recently emerged between the almost neck-and-neck pair when Colchester missed a home match with the Weston Homes covered in a blanket of snow.

Both Walsall F.C. and several thousand traveling Norwich fans have criticised Lambert`s influence, but anybody from Colchester`s contingent can`t complain.

The Scot`s long-term gamble, which could be seen as an attempt to manipulate an inevitable festive fixture backlog, might at last give Aidy Boothroyd`s men a short-term psychological advantage.

Ahead of January`s East Anglian derby, it could prove very important!
