Lambert: More Due After Hackney Miscarriage

After this week`s failed bid for Simon Hackney, Colchester manager Paul Lambert remains focused on bringing in other transfer targets.

The U`s boss had a double-bid for Carlisle player Hackney, who was interesting Leeds United in the close season, rejected this week.

Lambert spoke on BBC local radio yesterday of his determination to lure a few more faces to the Weston Homes Community before the deadline at the end of the month.

He said: “We`ll try. As I said before, there`s no point in bring lads in that are just going to come in and pick up a wage and just sit about the football club. You want lads that`ll push the ones that are in and the rest is up to them. You want hungry players; if you get that, you`ve got a chance.”

The manager said he had no hesitation in sticking with his current crop of players to try and help Colchester achieve his League One promotion aim.

“There`s other players I`m in for that`s not been documented so if we can get them, then great. If we don`t then the lads will keep going,” he added.
