Lambert New U’s Boss

Colchester United have named Paul Lambert as their new manager.

Lambert was unveiled at a 5 o’clock press conference and takes over from Geraint Williams as U’s boss. The Welshmen left the Weston Homes Community Stadium after a poor start to the League campaign.

Lambert has been without a job since leaving Wycombe Wanderers in May.

Caretaker-manager Kit Symons will take charge of the U’s weekend trip to Cheltenham Town, along with Joe Dunne, before Lambert takes over on Monday. The 39-year-old is likely to bring in his own backroom staff.

U’s chairman Robbie Cowling was delighted to have captured the ex-Celtic man, he told CU-FC.com: “I think we had a massively high calibre of candidates who applied and showed an interest.

“We narrowed those down and interviewed four candidates from there.

“At that point, Paul was head and shoulders above the other candidates and he was so impressive that the board of directors were unanimous in their decision.

“I think the determination that he showed shone through and he showed a good knowledge of the squad that he would inherit from the previous manager.

“He felt that he could win with what he has and showed a real desire to take this football club forward.”

Vital Colchester would like to welcome Paul to the club and wish him the best of luck in his time with the U’s.
