Robbie Cowling has declared that no Colchester United player will be leaving for Norwich City – not while he’s in charge!

Former boss Paul Lambert, who left the club earlier this month, is now in the Carrow Road hot-seat and also a known admirer of a number of players in the U’s squad. But if he thinks he will be able to lure any of them up the A140 before tomorrow’s transfer deadline, after speculation that David Fox might join him, he may need to think again!

U’s supremo Cowling, who is currently mulling over Lambert’s replacement, told The Colchester Daily Gazette: “They are all under contract at Colchester United.

“They will not be going to Norwich City with me as chairman,”
he confirmed.

And too right, Robbie!

Too right, is exactly it, Steve! But what with the news of that points deducation appeal today, I doubt Lambert will even show his face in Essex for a few months at least!

  • StevieG Col U says:

Yeah. Really love Cowling, what bloody great chairman! Up the U’s!

  • dhickl says:

Matt – do you realise that the only talk of points deduction is from the Us chairman. There is nothing going through the FA regarding it?

  • dhickl says:

The clubs are trying to work out compensation first, there has been no charge lodged with the FA (http://www.thefa.com/TheFA/Disciplinary.aspx). As that is the case how come “the news of that points deduction appeal” will come out today? I think you are just talking a load of rubbish!!!

  • Matt_Us says:

This article doesn’t say anything about the deduction; will follow up the story soon and thnaks for the comments. However, my headline clearly states that “U`s Consider Norwich City Points Deduction,” with some very well-sourced quotes. Realsitcally, it won’t happen, I know that. But it was in the news, so we covered it here on Vital.

Get over yourselves. Your Chairman is just big talking, to try to cover his embarrassment at how quickly Lambert jumped ship (to a team 8 points below you at the time!). PL has made no suggestion of wanting any of your players at Norwich – we have no budget for anything other than freebies. I understand you being bitter, but this is like Liechtenstein shouting about not allowing the USA to invade them – a non-story fabrication to placate the fans about how ‘Nasty Norwich’ won’t be allowed to walk all over you (again!).

  • Matt_Us says:

I admit that the angle is harsh on Norwich, but it was re-fashioned from a news story by my co-ed, who I will warn about his style of writing when it comes in on too many City articles ? overkill is not something I want to produce here. I myself wrote one last embittered article five days after PL left but will make no apology for using works like “shock” to describe his departure during current or future reporting ? it remains a surprise way to leave a football club. I agree with you, this is a subjective article by Steve (not me!) and part of me wants to say that, well, it’s his viewpoint that probably reflects what many in a Colchester audience will think. His reaction here is a response to speculation only that City wanted a player Lambert has just signed for us (and was openly salivating over in interviews) David Fox. We’ll be fair ? not because we have to but because I want to ? but at the end of the day it is an opinion and partisanship is an inescapable part of football fanzines. That is the reason why there are comment boxes, to give people a chance to respond with their own, individual, thoughts. Bit of an own-goal in portray yourselves as the USA, I think, but still thank you for your reply.

  • Matt_Us says:

What I will say is that Colchester fans will not make an apology for having opinions that you may not like! It could get stupid if you take that to a logical conclusion – next you will be blaming us for playing football against your team, winning 7-1 and causing two angry fans to throw their season tickets at a manager you couldn`t wait to get rid of. Col U say Lambert was induced to break his contract under Football League article 10 and that they are considering applying for a points deduction, as a result. That means looking into the possibility, and not, as is the difference, actually doing it!! The club also say they are having difficulty agreeing a transfer block. Steve Bradshaw, our CE, said that from day one. The speculation about who may leave for Norwich, since nothing has yet been agreed, is a by-product of that and even the Pink`un reported it before we did!! [Edited by MattUs]

  • StevieG Col U says:

It’s a fanzine – so the articles contain opinion and views! And the comment box allows people of respond – simple! Oh, wouldn’t it be fun if every fan agreed with one another and no one had an opinion – Not! Up the U’s! [Edited by MattUs]

I still find it interesting that people think Lambert would want any of your lot in the first place! I’d take Platt, but not sure other than that.

  • Matt_Us says:

It’s from the Fox link that all this has come in the first place although, yes, he also likes Platt a lot. Personally I think it’s time for this site to move on, because it’s a bit of a boring subject. Lambert left us a good team – thank you and goodbye!

  • Matt_Us says:

P.S. Who beat who 7-1? You see, our team isn’t so bad… that’s why you and the man who signed half of the team might want them. Although of course, he didn’t rate them that much if he was prepared to leave so quickly! Up the U’s!

  • StevieG Col U says:

All we’re doing is writing up the quotes from a local newspaper – what’s wrong with that? Its a U’s site and we write news concerning the U’s – I couldn’t give a stuff, and why should I, what you Norwich fans think…
