Lambert Still Has Promotion In Sight

Paul Lambert still thinks that the ‘play-offs are still on,’ despite the U’s disappointing defeat to Walsall.

The U’s wasted a number of chances early on, and were made to pay as the visitors went into the break two goals to the good. To read Vital Colchester’s match report, click here.

Post-match Lambert said: ‘Goals change games. Jamie (Guy) had a couple of early one-on-ones, and maybe he should have scored from at least one of them.

‘But he then lost one of his contact lenses, which is why I had to take him off at half-time. His vision was blurred and he didn’t have a spare set.

‘We had more half-chances in the second-half, and had a goal disallowed for offside (Paul Reid),’
he rued.

‘However, I still think that the play-offs are still on. Nothing much has changed. We are still in a position to do something.’

Saddlers counterpart Chris Hutchings said, following their third game without defeat: ‘I’m very pleased to get three points against a very good side in Colchester.

‘We didn’t start too well and Colchester had a good chance early on. Manny (Smith) came on early because of an injury (to Rhys Weston), and he did well against some dangerous strikers.

‘Colchester got behind us a few times, and on another day we could have conceded. But that’s three matches unbeaten for us, and we’re closing the gap on Colchester,’
he concluded.

So do you agree with Lambert that the U’s still have a chance of making the play-offs, and possible promotion? Or will we be spending another season in League One?
