Paul Lambert`s initial defence of striker Clive Platt after this week`s dismissal against Leyton Orient has been in vain after he admitted to unprofessional behaviour.

He was sent-off in the last moments of the U’s 2-1 reverse on Tuesday evening.

Vital didn`t clearly see the incident but now that Platt has conceded, in the Daily Gazette, that he reacted, it seems academic.

You always have to be professional and I`m not condoning what I did. Looking back with a cool head, I`m frustrated with myself,” said Platt, who had combined promisingly throughout his time on the pitch before the incident.

Platt has an automatic three-game ban, kicking in on Saturday, which should almost certainly open the door in upcoming games to £125,000 summer recruit, Joel Thomas. He is a similar player to Platt and could combine well with Kevn Lisbie.

The U`s manager, Lambert, had previously been reluctant to acknowledge the striker`s felony, describing him on BBC Essex Radio as a “gentle giant.” Platt hinted that he felt he had no protection from referee Darren Deadman, during the tie.
