Colchester’s League 1 season continued with a win against Blackpool at Bloomfield Road on Saturday.

It will still take a monumental effort for Colchester to avoid relegation but hope remains following a one-nil win at another side battling against the drop Blackpool.

A vital three-points was secured when Chris Porter scored his seventh-goal of the season on the hour, which meant Colchester remained in 23rd but closed the gap to (unlikely, admittedly) safety to eight-points.

Here’s a round up of the League 1 action from the other games played at the weekend….

These were the other results.

Saturday 9th April 2016
Barnsley 1-2 Chesterfield
Blackpool 0-1 Colchester
Bradford 1-0 Swindon
Bury 1-0 Doncaster
Millwall 3-1 Shrewsbury
Oldham 1-0 Walsall
Peterborough 1-2 Rochdale
Port Vale 3-0 Crewe
Scunthorpe 1-0 Burton
Sheff Utd 0-0 Gillingham
Southend 2-2 Fleetwood
Wigan 1-0 Coventry

They won at Wembley last week to secure the JPT but Barnsley (two-one) could struggle to make the play-offs now after losing to Chesterfield, who moved closer to safety with this win at Oakwell.

Colchester (one-nil) may yet pull off a remarkable relegation escape with a win at Blackpool to give them a little more hope of staying up with Pools remaining very much in the battle to stay in League 1 with Oldham’s (one-nil) bid to stay up also helped beating Walsall.

Bradford (one-nil) and Millwall (three-one) winning at home against Swindon and Shrewsbury, respectively, are looking as though play-off places are now secured with Wigan (one-nil) moving closer to winning the title with a win over Coventry to move away from Burton (one-nil) who were beaten at Scunthorpe.
