Colchester’s League 1 season continued with a defeat against Burton at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday.

It started so well for the caretakers at Burton when Charlton loanee Callum Harriott finished from Gavin Massey’s cross to put Colchester one-up early on but by half time Burton were ahead after Nasser El Khayati and Mark Duffy goals.

Second half efforts from Tom Naylor, Lucas Akins and Timmy Thiele meant the U’s were thrashed five-one in the end!

The other results this weekend were as follows:-

Barnsley 1-1 Sheff Utd
Blackpool 1-0 Fleetwood

Crewe 1-0 Oldham
Millwall 1-0 Bury
Rochdale 2-1 Port Vale
Scunthorpe 0-4 Peterborough
Shrewsbury 2-2 Gillingham
Southend 0-0 Wigan
Walsall 2-1 Bradford

Looking at these results the stand out ones have to be the wins for Blackpool, Rochdale and Peterborough?

Swindon produced a convincing win over Chesterfield, with the Spireites defeat resulting in Dean Saunders being sacked, deserves an honourable mentions though!

Blackpool and Fleetwood are not only neighbours they look like being relegation rivals this season with the Tangerines getting the points, and bragging rights, at Bloomfield Road with a one-nil win.

The recent form of Rochdale, compared to Port Vale who hadn’t lost in the month before Saturday, makes the two-one win at Spotland all the more impressive.

Peterborough not only won, which they did at Glanford Park against Scunthorpe, another four-goal haul saw Posh go home with the points after an impressive four-nil win!

Colchester are back in action at the weekend in the FA Cup against Altrincham.
