Colchester’s League 1 season continued with a defeat against Rochdale at Spotland on Saturday.

A lead was lost, when Colchester captain Chris Porter volleyed home, as Rochdale came back to win three-one when Ian Henderson levelled from the spot when Porter then committed a foul.

Donal McDermott had Dale ahead by half time with Olly Lancashire securing the points just past the hour to leave U’s (having lose seven-matches in a row) bottom at Christmas.

These games kicked-off with a cracking four-one win for Southend against play-off rivals Bury at Roots Hall on Friday.

Blackpool pulled off a fine two-nil win over another promotion chasing Peterborough, who have been free-scoring but couldn’t find the back of the net against the Tangerines who won at Bloomfield Road.

A reaction was something Gillingham wanted and a reaction was certainly something they saw! Thrashed three-nil by league leaders Burton (who drew three-three with Doncaster at the Pirelli Stadium) a week before the Gills won three-nil at Millwall on Saturday.

Colchester are back in action at the weekend with a home derby against Southend.

Did a starter, or someone from the bench, offer the most?
