The Colchester survival bid in league 1 took a crushing blow at the weekend with a good run ended against relegation rivals Crewe who edged us out in a five-goal thriller.

A half time lead was lost with Crewe roaring back into the game with a blistering three-goal burst inside of 15-minutes to see them, ultimately, to the three-two win at the Weston Homes Community Stadium on Saturday….

With both sides having first half chances, with none taking, it was looking as though it would be a goalless first half until Porter (45+1) collected a Briggs pass to fire home in first half injury-time.

A Crewe revival was threatened but after Porter went close to doubling our lead Jones (68) made it one-one at the midway point of the second half, five minutes later Ajose (73), heavily involved in the equaliser, made it two-one with Grant (81) scoring the decisive third in the final 10-minutes.

Ipswich loanee Marriott (84) came off the bench to pull a goal back three-minutes later but it wasn’t enough with Crewe going home with a three-two win.

Attention now moves away from this game and turns to our next one against Sheffield United and we are looking for your view on what way this will go?
