League One Rivals Make Baldwin Bid

Colchester United defender Pat Baldwin is the subject of strong interest from Bristol Rovers.

The U’s League One opponents are keen to keep Baldwin – a player who has spent the last month on loan at the Memorial Stadium – and have sent an offer East to Essex. Rovers are looking to take Baldwin on a loan deal until the end of the season and then complete a full-time transfer for him during the close season.

Yesterday, as reported on Vital Colchester, U’s manager Aidy Boothroyd admitted that the cultured centre-back could move on this month.

‘We have spoken with Colchester manager Adie Boothroyd and made an offer, but it is a complicated situation because he still has two-and-a-half years left on his contract there,’ director of football Lennie Lawrence told the Bristol Evening Post.

However, due to the length of the 27-year-old’s current WHCS contract – and his salary – the financial side of things could pose a problem. Despite this Lawrence revealed he was hopeful of having something sorted in the next few days.

He added: ‘We are not a million miles apart, although it isn’t done yet – but I would like to get it completed by the start of next week.’
