Former Colchester United first-teamer Greg Halford has said he does not regret leaving Layer Road a year ago, even after torrid spells with Reading and Sunderland in the Premier League.

The 23-year-old conceded in the Evening Gazette this week he has “no regrets” about leaving the U`s despite his now precarious position under manager Roy Keane at the Stadium of Light. The right-back could be sold his month, and has even been linked in the East Anglain Daily Times with a move back to Colchester.

‘I handed in my transfer request at Colchester and it was right for me,” Halford explained yesterday, adding: ‘I don’t have any regrets.”

“Colchester are the first team’s results that I look for on a Saturday. I still have friends and family in Colchester and I do miss the place.”
