The U’s travel to the Midlands with nothing but pride left to play for, after Championship relegation was confirmed on Wednesday.

Ian Holloway will be hoping to hoist his struggling Leicester side out of the bottom three with a win over the U’s.

Geraint Williams’ men will be buoyed by last weekend’s victory over local rivals Ipswich Town and will be hoping for a win, to drag the Foxes down with them.

U’s boss Geraint Williams told My Football Writer: ‘We don’t owe other teams anything and they don’t owe us anything, we owe ourselves, this club and the fans four performances, and we’re looking to go and get four victories so that’s what we’ll try and do.

‘We’ve still got games to go this year and a lot of pride to play for, the players showed that last week in the performance that they gave for the fans, for themselves and this club against Ipswich. We’ve got four more games to do that and get as many points as we can.’

The Foxes have struggled for goals this season, only managing to find the net 39 times: ‘They’ve spent millions and millions on strikers, I think they’ve got four or five there that are million pound strikers but they still can’t score goals where they’ve scored before.

‘Every club has got different problems and you’ve got to find the solutions, ours was conceding goals and we didn’t find the solutions.’

Williams went on: ‘We don’t want to finish bottom, we want to finish as high up the table as we can and get 12 points, so that’s what we’re setting out to do at Leicester this Saturday.’



Leicester manger Ian Holloway told BBC Radio Leicester: “We’re in this situation but it’s nothing a couple of wins won’t put right.

“I believe we can get a couple of wins, I believe we will and I want the fans to believe that.

“All I’m asking is for everybody to bring their voice with them and let’s make sure Colchester are scared stiff.”

Leicester have Barry Hayles (suspension), DJ Campbell and Jamie Clapham (both groin) fit for the visit of the relegated U’s.

Patrick Kisnorbo and Lee Hendrie are available, and should feature.

Player to watch: Steve Howard

Howard signed from Derby County in January, and has found the net six times since. The big front-man will be looking to cause a somewhat fragile U’s backline problems.

Colchester welcome back Clive Platt (back), but Scott Vernon should retain his place in attack.

Kevin Watson (calf), Luke Guttridge (illness) and Kevin McLeod (neck) played for the reserves in midweek, but miss out.

Teddy Sheringham (foot), Pat Baldwin, Mark Yeates and Aidan Davison (all shoulder) are long-term absentees.

Player to watch: Scott Vernon

Vernon took full of advantage of a rare start last Saturday, as he fired home two classy goals to earn the U’s their first victory in eleven games. Vernon will be hoping to build on last week’s brace, and net once more.
