Colchester United manger Geraint Williams believes Medy Elito needs to be left to ‘progress` following being labelled as a ‘wonder kid` in the U`s match day programme against Cardiff City.

The young winger come striker now has three senior U’s appearances to his name, but Williams does not want too much pressure put on the teenager.

‘He equipped himself well today. But there’s a lot put on the kid at the moment.’ Williams told My Football Writer.

‘He got in the England U17s which is great but suddenly there’s this ‘he’s a wonder kid, is he the next best thing?’ in the programme.’ He rued.

‘Let’s let the lad progress, it was a solid performance but you could tell sometimes people were expecting him to do fantastic tricks and all that.’

Elito outshone fellow young prospect Aaron Ramsey, who appeared for the Bluebirds: ‘He’s a young boy learning his trade, he’s got lots of ability but he’s got to learn the game.’

Williams also hailed the ‘impact’ debutant Anthony Wordsworth made: ‘I’m delighted for him to get out on the pitch, and Anthony Wordsworth as well, I thought he had a good impact when he came on.’

‘So it’s great for the youngsters to get on the pitch but let’s give them time to develop.’
