U`s manager Paul Lambert has denied that the club are racing with MK Dons to sign Cheltenham`s wing prospect, Ashley Vincent.

Vincent, 24 in May, has spoke falteringly across the media about the prospect of joining either side, insisting that he had been in talks with the club over a possible transfer.

“That`s what they are – just rumours,” Lambert told BBC Radio Essex last night. He added: “There`s people out there who I`ll try and get, and if I can get them, then great.”

The winger can also play up front and is a close friend of his former team-mate at Cheltenham Town, Steve Gillespie, who has had an injury-revenged season since he arrived last summer.

Manager Lambert finished: “I think anybody with a bit of pace is going to fill the gap [up front], and Steven`s come back looking really sharp. If we can bring people in to help the lads up top, we`ll certainly try and do that.”

Vincent has only scored 13 goals in 131 games for Town, but today it has been confirmed that he could be leaving his current club, where his contact expires at the end of the season.

“Ashley has been told about the enquiries and it looks like he’ll be leaving,” said Martin Allen on BBC Radio Gloucestershire.

TBH I don’t think Lambert would names any names when asked who he’s looking…

  • Matt_Us says:

…except that the guy already said he has had talks! Why would he lie?

  • StevieG Col U says:

Well, its unusual for a club, apart from a few in Jan, to go around saying to the public what’s happening to do with transfers…
