Millwall have become the second of Colchester`s League One counterparts this season to admit an interest in signing Ipswich Town`s playmaking striker, Kevin Lisbie.

Thirty-something Lisbie already publically attracted attention from Southampton in the last transfer window, who instead opted to buy their first-choice target, the former Southend forward, Lee Barnard.

Lisbie`s previous allegiances in public had very much been pro-Colchester, but the much-admired former Charlton striker surprised many fans but saying he`d “love” the chance to join Alan Pardew`s team.

Although, as yet, the Jamaican has not made eyes in the same way at the side managed by Kenny Jackett, the in-form fines look like a promotion side in waiting. Should they successfully seal the second automatic spot and thus Championship football next season, it is suspected that Lisbie would find it hard to decline a firm offer, especially if it secures his much discussed long-term future.

We will have to see what happens with Kevin Lisbie,” Jackett told the town’s Daily Gazette this week, speaking after the Jamaican not only recently scored against his side but also took a wave of boos from their supporters. At the time, United boss Aidy Boothroyd protected Lisbie, reassuring that only good players are usually targeted by opposition fans.

But back to Jackett: “My scouts are looking at the market for me and we need to know who is out of contract and available. We contacted Ipswich when we had a lot of players out injured, but since then others have come in or come back and got fit.”

The U`s, deploying Libsie both as an outside right and goal-poacher for extended spells this season, previously stated in January that a permanent deal for the player would be too expensive an investment but still may be tempted to make an offer.

Well, think Millwall made an offer but Lisbie rejected the contract as he wanted more cash. Cant really blame him, he’s got over 12 months left on his Town deal, has a big family, so why would he settle for less-then what he’s on there…!

When did all that happen, Steve?
