Colchester United front-man Kevin Lisbie feels he owes the U’s a ‘debt of gratitude’.
The Jamaican, who joined the U’s last summer after his release by Charlton, has been linked with a move away from North Essex, as relegation to League One looks likely. With 16 goals in a U’s shirt, Lisbie has proved a good signing.
Having scored 17 goals in 12 years at Charlton, Lisbie is just one short of that total in under one season at Layer Road. The Hackney-born player explained how grateful he is to the U’s for giving him the chance to kick-start his injury-plagued career.
He told newspaper The Sun: “No other club wanted to know me in the summer because they were worried about my injury record.
“Colchester were the only club to show faith in me and give me a chance, so I’m not even thinking about leaving yet.
“I know there’s not a lot of loyalty in football, but I feel I owe the club a debt of gratitude.”
Well fingers-crossed he will be wearing a U’s shirt come August.
