Kevin Lisbie showed some true tenacity in firing home a super penalty salvo to seal a 2-0 victory against Hartlepool United.
The striker put in a confident performance as makeshift winger because Aidy Boothroyd paired powerhouse duo Clive Platt and dangerous-looking new signing, Kayode Odejayi up front.
Colchester were awarded a hat-trick of penalties, all taken by Lisbie, which helped them on their way to a win during Boothroyd`s home bow.
Having missed the first with thirty-eight minutes gone, he converted when given the chance to atone for his error five minutes later. Lightening Lisbie also struck again from twelve yards out when another spot-kick came their way.
Two good first-half saves from goalie Ben Williams also ensured he kept a clean sheet.
There was a rousing minuet`s applause before kick-off, too, in respect of the efforts made by the town`s troops away in Afghanistan.
A full match report will follow later on Vital Colchester…
