Kevin Lisbie did not travel for Colchester`s FA Cup fixture with Preston after the striker`s Ipswich loan was extended for one possibly final club game.

The U`s leading scorer this season was due to re-join Roy Keane at Ipswich this week but the Irishman belatedly cleared the Cup-tied Lisbie to play for United this weekend.

Lisbie`s final game of his loan spell was due to be Monday`s encounter at Southampton until the media speculated that he might pull on a United shirt once more.

Perhaps manager Aidy Boothroyd was not prepared to disrupt his match-day plans without the Jamaican or maybe Lisbie`s exclusion foregrounds the fact that he may not return on a permanent basis, despite his wishes.

BBC Radio Essex speculation as to Lisbie`s next career destination pre-match included Championship teams Queens Park Rangers and Crystal Palace.

Financial limits might mean that Lisbie’s second spell could be his last for Colchester.
