Central defender Yado Mambo is on trial with the U’s, as he looks to secure himself a new club following his release by Charlton Athletic this summer.
The 21-year-old made fifteen appearances in League One last season as he took a loan spell away from the Valley to join Shrewsbury, playing the full ninety minutes at the Weston Homes Community Stadium in the U’s final home game.
His spell with the Shrews marked a step up from his previous loan spells which have generally been in non-league with the likes of Welling, Dover and Staines, amongst others.

Last year Mambo enjoyed a brief spell with AFC Wimbledon to be introduced to Football League football and, having mentioned on Twitter that he is training with the club, he will be hoping to impress Joe Dunne.
The U’s first team friendlies begin on Wednesday evening with a trip to Heybridge Swifts, and it is likely to be the first opportunity for U’s fans to cast their eye over the youngster.
