Striker Marino Keith announced his decision to retire from professional football yesterday afternoon, after just 12 starts for Colchester United during a torrid three-year spell at Layer Road. The 32-year old Scotsman, signed by Phil Parkinson from Plymouth in 2005, admits defeat after eighteen months out with multiple injuries.

He told the BBC: ” Now’s the time to call it a day and finally admit defeat.’

Keith added: ‘I’ve been quite fortunate – I’ve been part of teams that have won three Championship’s and won four promotions.’

Full career retrospective to follow.
