Colchester United`s on-loan defender Matthew Connolly is confident that the Layer Road side can leave Molineux with a positive result tonight.

The U`s, without a win in six, recorded their last victory against a team from the Black Country – West Brom.

Connolly and his team-mates are looking to bounce back from their latest defeat, which came at the hands of Crystal Palace last weekend. It has left them hanging dangerously above the relegation zone, in 20th place in the Championship.

Connolly is vying to start along with fellow loanee Adam Virgo, in place of the suspended Pat Baldwin, for tonight`s daunting trip to the West Midlands.

The U`s went down 1-0 in this fixture last season, but Connolly believes he and his team-mates have to look no further than the opening day draw at fellow promotion favourites Sheffield United for inspiration.

Connelly recently told The Evening Gazette: ‘The way that we played at Sheffield United on the first day of the season gave us a confidence that we can go anywhere in the Championship and hold our own.

‘Bramell Lane is probably the hardest place to go and got get a result but so is Wolves, so we know that will also be difficult game.”

Connolly, who recently earned a call-up to the England U-21 squad, is at Layer Road on a season-long-loan deal from Premier League giants Arsenal.

He added, “It`s very important that we show a good response against Wolves. We haven`t won in a while but we`re still confident.”
