Recent activity at Colchester has seen Byron Lawrence leave the club whereas Elliott Lee, ahead of the midweek meeting with Fleetwood, returned for another loan spell from West Ham.

Lawrence hasn’t found it easy to force his way into the U’s first-team team so the decision was made that it was in the best interests of all concerned that the midfielder seek ‘pastures new’ so his contract was cancelled by mutual consent.

His one and only first-team game came Sheffield United last season but it goes without saying the 19-year-old left with the clubs best wishes for the future.

An option for Kevin Keen going forward will be forward Lee, who has come back for a second loan spell at the Weston Homes Community Stadium having previously been loaned by former Colchester boss Joe Dunne.

Lee, who scored once in his four-match loan previously, has had loans with Luton and Blackpool since returning to West Ham after that last spell with the U’s but he’ll spend the remainder of the season with the club.

Keen told the Official Website.

‘I’ve brought Elliot in to strengthen our attacking options. He knows the club from his time here before and he is a hungry young player who has had a good upbringing. He wants to score goals for this club and gives us another option up front.’
