Colchester United travel to Millwall tonight in the first round of the Johnson’s Paint Trophy.

The U`s face the Lions on the back of Saturday`s frustrating draw at home to Oldham, while Millwall beat Huddersfield 2-1.

The U`s match against the Lions, at the New Den, is their first in the competition for three years.

Millwall Team News:

Lions midfielder Danny Spiller could return after a long lay-off, while Gary Alexandra is unlikely to play.

Danny Senda and Marcus Bignot (both knee), along with Marc Laird (hamstring) miss out.

Player to watch: Tresor Kandol

Kandol, 27, scored a goal as the Lions beat Huddersfield on Saturday and will be looking to strike again.

The man on loan from Leeds will be a real handful for the U’s back-line.

Colchester United Team News:

Record-signing Steven Gillespie (hamstring) misses out, as he did against Oldham.

Pat Baldwin is once again in the squad, as he continues to build up his fitness, however, Paul Reid is also unavailable.

David Perkins, Dean Hammond, Medy Elito and Akanni-Sunday Wasiu will all be hoping to start.

U’squad: Gerken, Cousins, Coyne, Baldwin, Ifil, Heath, White, Wordsworth, Hammond, Izzet, Jackson, Perkins, Yeates, Elito, Batchelor, Platt, Wasiu, Vernon.

Player to watch: Mark Yeates

Yeates, 23, impressed against Oldham on Saturday, with a fine double strike.

The former Tottenham Hotspur winger will be looking to continue where he left off.

Ref Watch:

Referee: Gavin L Ward – Surrey

Assistants: R Beevor and J G Comley

Fourth Official: G S Evetts

Match Prediction:

StevieG Col U’s prediction: 2-0 U’s win!

Next Fixtures:

The U’s travel to face Crewe a week on Saturday, while Millwall host Hartlepool this weekend.

Hope Elito gets a run-out. He should be starting each week as he was looking good towards the end of last season, getting better by the game. I’m a fan of Woody but he isn’t a natural wide man or even a left sided player so find his inclusion ahead of Elito somewhat strange-maybe he is in to compensate for Yeates’ tendancy to roam from left to right and lack of tracking back?

Well Medy got a game, which is good. Yeah, I think Woody, who has looked good, is in because of statue and physical presence, Medy and Yeates are quite similar and none are that good at defending.
