Colchester have looked to ward off interest in George Moncur, which is apparently growing with interest being shown but no offers actually made, by issuing a ‘hands off’ warning to would be suitors.

Moncur continues to impress with the U’s and scored the winner against former club West Ham in Monday’s one-nil pre-season win, among reported clubs interested are League 1 rivals Swindon.

The 21-year-old was an almost ever present for the U’s last season and would remain influential to the midfield this season with Robbie Cowling telling the Gazette he’s not for sale with us keen for his progression to continue but at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Cowling said no offers have been made for Moncur, or any other players, as yet and nor are we inviting them – which you could argue we have by publicly saying this?

‘We’re a club that encourages progression but we don’t want to let any of our young players go.

‘We haven’t had any offers for any of our players.

‘We don’t want to lose players like George Moncur. He’s been excellent for us and was a big part of what we did last year.’

His old man John was a player with Swindon being part of the Glenn Hoddle era of the early 1990s that made it into the Premier League.
