John Ward has decided against offering recent triallist striker James Walker a full-time contract with Colchester United.

The former Southend United man spent around three weeks training with U’s squad during pre-season after becoming a free agent. However, unlike with Lloyd James and Ben Coker, Ward had opted against offering any sort of extended stay to Walker.

Walker, an ex-Charlton Athletic player, will now continue his search for a new club before the season starts.

The goal-shy striker has struggled to regularly find then net so far in his career, although he managed a goal in the U’s 5-0 pre-season rout of Heybridge Swifts last week.
