Colchester`s chief comeback kid, super skipper Karl Duguid, is sleeping easy again after an injury scare during Saturday`s loss against Stoke City.

There were initial fears that the club`s captain may have suffered a reoccurrence of the horrific leg problem that almost forced him out of the game for good when he was led away on a stretcher following a clash with Richard Creswell at the Britannia Stadium.

Happily, the U`s confirmed today that Karl will only be on crutches for a short period and, with the international break ahead, the anticipation is that Duguid could be back in action as soon at October the 20th, when his side face West Brom.

On the injury, boss Duguid told today`s Evening Gazette: ‘It’s a bit sore.

‘As I went to clear the cross, the ball hit my ankle and my foot went from under me.

‘I’m hoping that it will be no more than a couple of weeks.

‘It’s not as swollen as it could have been because I had strapping on it anyway. I can still walk.”
