Norwich Linked With Audacious Platt Bid

Colchester United striker Clive Platt is a reported transfer target for recently-relegated Norwich City.

A report in today’s EDP24 claims that Bryan Gunn’s failure to land a number of other ‘target-man’ style forwards has lead to an audacious attempt to sign the 31-year-old.

The ex-MK Dons front-man only penned a new improved deal last summer after the U’s knocked back efforts from their League One rivals and they would be unwilling to do business 12-months on.

A move is very unlikely, with Platt seen as a vital member of the U’s squad by boss Paul Lambert, who is a big, big fan.

Platt is the second U’s player to be linked with Carrow Road this week, with transfer flop Phil Ifil also thought to be interesting City, click here.

So is this rubbish? Or have you heard their is some truth?

    Cant see it happening!

Hahaha they want to get promoted………..and they are bidding for Platt!!!! That really makes me laugh.

  • Candid NCFC says:

I’m sure we’d want someone more mobile. I think we are linked with this kind of player because it’s the type we can’t deal with when we play against them- like Alan Lee.

  • Matt_Us says:

He’s an Iwelumo-type player, just hasn’t been as prolific. Not to worry, we can just replace him with Peter Crouch!!!

  • up_the_u's_aaron says:

No one will ever get near to Iwelumo. Whenever a ball went in the air, no matter where it was, he would laway made sure he got there first with his head or chest. He’s work rate was second to none. His heading is precise. Platt is wayyyyyyyy off his standards.

  • StevieG Col U says:

Iwelumo > Platt, Iwelumo was so much more mobile and could pose a threat by running at defenders.

  • Matt_Us says:

True, Platt is never going to be an Iwelumo, so maybe if Norwich offer enough, he could go. Although, I’m excited that a possible new system my evolved next season with Hackers and Vicent as attacking wingers / strikers supporting the less mobile, but still imposing, Platt!

Never heard of him – we’ll take him! 😉

I remember last season whenever a ball went in the box, if it was in the air ( with platt having the height, he should easily get it) he would hardly jump and completly miss. Even in the odd times he would get his head it it, there was no direction on it. And it came to his fett, his first touch was terrible. I really dont know how he scored as many as he did last season.

  • fatbarman says:

I’d just as soon let you keep him. We need a more prolific striker – 1 in 4 is a decent record, but not enough to compensate for our woeful record in front of goal in recent years! Mind you, we can’t afford anyone decent, so maybe this will happen!

  • StevieG Col U says:

He WONT go, Lambert is building a team around him.

  • Matt_Us says:

Ifil and Platt linked in the same week, lucky Norwich!

  • StevieG Col U says:

Why is everyone so harsh about Platt?!??!?

  • Matt_Us says:

Just probably because he is an old-fashioned target-man. We should be nice to him, if he’s of a rare stock!

  • Dale1981 says:

Sorry, but your boss is reportedly looking to offload several players to cut down on the budget. Also looking to sign two new forwards…the two don’t go hand-in-hand unless someone is to be offloaded from the striking department. My money is on the ageing Platt…..
