Senior players from Colchester United`s current squad have declined to criticise David Perkins` decision in filing a transfer request.

Long-serving duo Kem Izzet and Pat Baldwin each told the East Anglian Daily Times and BBC Radio Essex within the past 24-hours that they respect his recent desire to move as a personal choice, rather than an overall career decision.

Although Izzet, who competes for the same position in the U`s midfield, called it a ‘setback‘, he appeared to empathise. “It’s setback after setback at the moment. Things are just going against us,” he said.

Izzet added: “Perhaps it’s a personal thing with Perks. He’s a northern lad and he might want to return north, but that’s up to him. I don’t know. It’s his decision.”

Baldwin, currently a popular stand-in skipper during the side`s spell without a formal manager, echoed Izzet`s sentiments, saying: “It was a little bit of a surprise, but he’s spoken about it before that he’s not entirely happy down here. That’s his decision and you can’t say anything against it.”

During an interview yesterday, a Colchester United spokesman however stated the club will not let Perkins leave without recouping some sort of fee. They remain hopeful he will not depart.

I doubt he will be going. Esepcially with a manager manager around the corner.

Maybe he hs been advised by somone who knows he could get a move before the end of the current transfer window!

Yeah – seems a bit out the blue. Scored a cracking goal on opening day and with Hammond and Jackson off he should be getting more football.

  • Matt_Us says:

He should stay. Hope he does.

I like Perks and I think he should stay, he works hard, and as Steve says he should be getting more games now with Hammond off.

Hello, Chip. Cheers for the post. I think we’ll all agreed then! Over to you, Perks…!! Doubt he will leave if the U’s don’t sign any more first.

  • StevieG Col U says:

Well we cant let him leave if no one else comes in! We would be very short in the middle of the park. Not that he’s exactly tall other other hand! lol

… him and Izzet, doing that free-kick jumping in the wall in one match, very comic!!
