It’s often said you learn more from a defeat? In many ways this is very true as if you’re cruising along winning, much as this is something you’ll always want, you’ll – in many ways – gain more when you do lose by seeing how this is reacted too.

Defeat to Orient on Saturday, a heavy defeat at that at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, is such a game Tom Eastman feels falls into this category and is all part of the ‘learning curve’ for Colchester.

The three-nil Leyton Orient defeat at the WHCS was disappointing but ahead of the Ipswich game Eastman has backed the U’s to learn from this and come back stronger, the Player of the Year – for the last two seasons in fact – told the Gazette.

‘It was a tough game.

‘Orient beat us comfortably in the end so it was a bit of a learning curve.

‘We’ve been cruising so far in pre-season so although it was disappointing to lose, it was good to have a hard game and one we can learn from.’

Maybe it’ll act as a grounder as well after all the previous pre-season friendlies had been won?

I’d definitely agree with the defender the U’s will learn much more from this defeat, which should be beneficial going forwards.
